Escape the ordinary this weekend and earn yourself a chance at the big time at the MTV Base VJ Search auditions this weekend. Auditions kick off in Umhlanga on Saturday so there’s still plenty of time to hone your presenting skills, brush up on your music knowledge and check that you’re looking your best. Thousands of young hopefuls are expected to attend the auditions in the Promozone Court, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga, in the hope of becoming the brightest new face of MTV Base. Just a few minutes in front of the producers could be all it takes to set you on a path to a dream gig in entertainment: a fantastic job presenting a show on music and youth channel worth over ZAR 500,000. The lucky winner will also drive away in a fabulous DS3 Cabrio, courtesy of Citroën, worth a cool ZAR 315,000.
Nomuzi Mabena will be hosting the auditions in Durban on Saturday 13 July. Initial call backs will be held at the Durban Country Club on 14 July in front of judges Sizwe Dhlomo (@SizweDhlomo), Joey Rasdien (@joeyrasdien) and Gagasi FM’s Zookey Zarling (@ZarlingZookey), who will also be hosting a live OB on Gagasi FM from the auditions. The three Durban qualifiers will be announced on Monday 15 July.
Registration for the auditions starts from 9:00 am on Saturday 13 July. Applicants are encouraged to be on-site early as auditions will take place on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must be South African residents between the ages of 18-25 with fluent English and no criminal record. Prior presenting or TV experience is not required. Applicants must bring valid ID with them and be available to participate in the elimination phases of the competition between 30 July and 7 August.
