3 Highlights From AKA’s #TouchMyBlood Listening Session
Published 2 years ago by

Touch My Blood is arguably one of the most anticipated albums in Hip Hop at the moment. It’s been 4 years in the making after all right? Last night we were invited to the exclusive listening session of the album as well as documentary viewing for the making of the album.

He Had The Mood Just Right!

In true Supa Mega fashion, we were treated to a night of complete and utter exclusivity. From the underground feel of the venue to the bouncers at the door and the beautiful fast cars at the entrance, this was no ordinary night.

We walked into a room lit with red ambient light with #TouchMyBlood album cover at every corner. Drinks were flowing (not as smoothly as we liked though) and the venue was gradually getting packed by the media as well as Supa Mega fans.

Some of the famous faces at the event were L-Tido and Okmalumkoolkat who also featured on the album, Mpho Popps Modikane who MC’ed the event as well as Rouge, Shekhinah and Moozlie among many others. AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes was also there along with Kairo, AKA’s daughter, and DJ Zinhle.

Rest Assured, The Music is Really Well Made!

He may have already dropped 5 singles ahead of the album release but man the rest of the songs are something else. Touch My Blood represents AKA’s creative freedom in that the rapper did not limit himself musically.

Tracks such as Sweet Fire and Star Signs represent the overall melodic prowess of the album. He premiered 7 more joints last night and got people dancing and singing along to the weirdly hypnotic melodies.

It is safe to say that the production of the album is seamless and remains one of the most consistent things about AKA as an artist. He got Tweezy, Masta A Flat and Buks who, in their own way brought the best out of AKA.

Jika featuring Yanga Chief was a fan favourite so was Fela In Versace featuring Burna Boy. But the titled track, Touch My Blood as well as Daddy Issues II were the highlights.

#TouchMyBlood Documentary & Fully In Music Video

Seeing that this album is the last, AKA shot a documentary of the making. He took us through the production process as well why he chose the features he did. This really gives us an insight to how personal this album was to him.

He also premiered the music for Fully In, a video which was shot in Eldorado Park. The video is high energy and sees AKA engage with the locals and let his guard down a little.
