We haven’t received any critically acclaimed coming out of the Amapiano sub-genre since we can remember. Every attempt was either a toss of the ball with the weaker arm or just too cliché and kitsch to be considered a good video, especially with the disappointment of the ‘Sukendleleni’ and ‘Labantwana Ama’Uber’ that recently graced our Televisions and YouTube screens.
Now Samthing Soweto has brought to our attention what we believe House Music videos should at least attest to propagate. Sam has presented us with two music videos from his highly acclaimed album Isphithiphithi. A few hours ago Samthing Soweto released the videos for Akulaleki featuring our favourite vocalist Shasha and amaDM.
Both videos dropped at the same time and we are loving them so far. Both videos tell their respective stories in a fun and creative manner and as cliché as some scenes may seem, there is always something around the corner to keep you intrigued.
Akulaleki – Samthing Soweto feat. ShaSha, DJ Maphorisa & Kabza De Small
Akulaleki is visually outstanding and the storytelling is straight forward and to the point. The video starts off with Sam in the studio writing down some lyrics and quickly progress to the root of the song which is about going out to have fun. The video is set in a house party scene with a fun looking crowed. The house party is thrown by a husband left alone with the house and sooking to have a nice time to break is boredom. The video ends in a cliché fashion with the wife coming back to find a messing house and still “lite” husband dancing on his own.
AmaDM – Samthing Soweto feat. DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small & Mfr Souls
AmaDM is one of our favourite tracks off the album and it is also one of our favourite Amapiano videos this far. The video is set as a split-screen view with Sam on the left end and with what seems to be his confidant on right. The two seem to be exchanging text messages throughout the video. Video at first seems bland at first as all you seem is the two texting and as a viewer, you already formulate a conclusion. then the “Oh” moment hits you when both sides of the screen open their doors and their actual partners are revealed.
Check out the videos and tell us which of the two videos is your favourite in the comment section below.
