Make no mistake: it’s a funny old world and Comedy Central continues its mirthful scrutiny of the absurd, the strange and the downright ridiculous in the latest edition of Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s. Taking place at Parker’s Comedy & Jive, Montecasino on Wednesday 27 February, the twelfth edition of the live comedy showcased stars comic legend Al Prodgers, skilfully supported by Warren Robertson, Gavin Kelly and Nqoba Ngcobo.
A regular on international comedy stages, Prodgers (@alprodgers) has performed all over the world from the Seychelles and Mauritius to sophisticated venues in London. Prodgers’ reputation as a comedian has garnered international recognition: as a finalist at the 2007 “Yuk Yuks Great Canadian Laugh Off”, Prodgers surpassed thousands of entrants, going all the way through to the grand finale, being the only non-Canadian act to have made it to the big clincher. On TV, Prodgers has co-hosted the actuality programme “Zooming in on Men”, played the recurring character of Maxime, on Africa’s most watched soapy, “Generations”, been a homicidal maniac on “Isidingo” and featured in the ITV drama “Wild at Heart”.
Warren Robertson (@WarrenRcomedian) views the world through a very peculiar lens: his delightfully twisted mind supplies bizarre, playful answers to some of life’s seemingly simple questions, while the everyday becomes beautifully weird. As nominee in the 2011 Comics Choice Awards, Robertson’s performances are always an exercise in the original. Tackling crime, history, politics, and even the philosophies, words and idioms we take for granted with an air of detached confusion, Robertson always delivers a clever, thoughtful and, above all, hilarious routine.
Comedy Showdown winner Nqoba Ngcobo (@Kingnqoba) is a unique oddity in the South African comedy scene: a comedian who does not rely on the tried-and-tested formula of racial stereotypes as the basis of his material. Ngcobo’s witty, and charismatic comedy is renowned for energetic delivery, brilliant observations, and poignant insights. A regular host at Emperor’s Palace, Ngcobo is a scriptwriter on local gossip show “Real Goboza Reloaded”, has regularly hosted the Comedy Hour on Radio Midrand and a comedy show on YoTV called “Comedy Khona”. Ngcobo has begun cementing himself a niche at the pinnacle of South African comedy: only time will tell where this industrious, ingenious, and inspirational comedian goes from here!
Pretoria’s Gavin Kelly (@Gavykelly) is a rising young comedy talent who has performed all over the country, from Soweto to Cape Town, Kelly’s comedy career highlights include performing at the Graça Comedy Showdown, Soweto Comedy Festival and stand-up gigs at venues such as Cool Runnings, Parker’s Comedy & Jive and The State Theatre in Pretoria.
Comedy Central Presents Al Prodgers Live at Parker’s premieres Friday 19 April at 20:55 CAT on Comedy Central.
