Amstel Lager the Official Beer Sponsor of South Africa’s most prestigious music awards event – The MTN South Africa Music Awards – honors the 2013 MTN SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award candidates whom, like Amstel, represent great craftsmanship and acknowledge the importance of time in the realization of success.
Since the inception of the SAMA’s 19 years ago, the MTN SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award has always been one of the few awards not decided on by a panel of judges. Instead, this most prestigious of all MTN SAMA’s, is selected by the executive committee of the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). This award recognizes artists whose successful careers have been built over time, through hard work, passion and dedication.

Amstel Lager has been celebrating and lifting the best of SA music through its various music platforms and the Lifetime Achievement Award as a tribute to success, built over the years, was an ideal opportunity for Amstel to celebrate the best in South African music at this year’s MTN SAMA’s.
The recipients for this year’s award are Johannes Kerkorrel (Ralph John Rabie) who is a posthumous recipient of the award and will be honoured for his prolific career as an alternative Afrikaans artist. The MTN SAMA’s will also be honouring two other Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Sizwe Zako the prolific and well loved gospel performer and producer & Dr. Thomas Chauke whose stellar career has seen cumulative sales in excess of two million and more South African Music Awards in the Tsonga Traditional category than any other musician. They join the ranks of previous winners of the award which have included Lucky Dube, Ray Phiri, Jabu Khanyile, Vusi Mahlasela, Brenda Fassie and Dorothy Masuka. The MTN SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented by Amstel at Sun City on Friday May 10th 2013.
