Sixteen of the country’s most prolific B-Boys will descend on Cape Town at the Red Bull BC One South Africa Cypher at Feva Nightclub on July, 7 2012. Regarded as the most important of the world breakdancing championships, Red Bull BC One has single-handedly put B-Boying on the map. The competition is no stranger to South Africa with the 2007 World Final having taken place at in Soweto. Last year, technical Roxrite’s complex moves finally won him the title of Red Bull BC One World Champion in Russia, a title that had eluded him in two previous finals of the competition.
Winner of the Johannesburg cypher B-Boy, Shorty Blitz would love the opportunity to go on to represent South Africa at the Middle East and African finals: “It will be a privilege to share the stage with such talented dancers. If I win, it would mean a lot because you are able to represent your country and be in the presence of some of the best Bboys in the world and share your concepts and skills. It would be an honour.” The top 16 Bboy’s are ready to prove that South Africa’s B-boys are a force to be reckoned with are: Benny (CPT), Bizzo (DBN), Break Boy IP (CPT), Chopstix (JHB), Dag (EL), Eddy B (JHB), Gift (PE), Jed (CPT), Meaty (CPT), Rhythm (PE), Roots (CPT), Shorty Blitz (JHB), Silent Sam (CPT), The Curse (CPT), Trashbotic (CPT) and Toufeeq (CPT). A unique character, all round skills and a revered reputation will be key to bringing the 16 local B-Boys one step closer to the regional qualifying round in Cairo, and hopefully on to the final in Brazil in November.
