The legendary Bassline in Newtown Johannesburg is proud to announce the confirmed line up for the 9th annual Bassline Africa Day Concert, held over two exciting nights on the 24th and 25th May 2013. With the 25th May being the internationally recognised, commemorative Africa Day, concerts will take place over two nights. The concerts will be moving from Mary Fitzgerald Square, which has historically been the hosting venue, to The Bassline venue itself – a venue long regarded as the heart of African music in Johannesburg.
The Bassline Africa Day Concert, as it has become known, is a celebration of African music from across the continent, celebrating the day that promotes unity and solidarity as well as the continent’s vibrancy, dynamism and the global need for Africans to embrace our collective identity. It is a day declared by the official African Union for all Africans to rejoin in our uniquely rich heritage. Over the past 9 years The Bassline has brought some of the most diverse sounds to Johannesburg in celebration of this event. This year’s eclectic and diverse mix of genres features acts from Niger, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa.
