Recently entitled Songwriter of the Year at the Wawela Music Awards, Berita will be representing Africa at the KWAKU Cultural Festival in Amsterdam, Netherlands this weekend. The “Sukundixhesha” singer was invited by the City of Amsterdam who wanted to honour President Nelson Mandela in this year’s festival. Berita will head to Denmark to perform at the Mandela Day festival on the 19th. “As an African artist it is huge honour to be representing my continent in the Netherlands,” states Berita. “I’m privileged to follow in the footsteps of the great likes of Mariam Makeba and Hugh Maskela, who had been flying the South African flag in the day of apartheid. This year, the challenges are different, the message is different, the youth have a different story and I am honoured to be the one to tell the African story abroad,” she concludes.
