It’s 2017 and the Queen Bee slayage has begun, not like it ever left. Bonang Matheba’s star keeps shining brighter as the years go by and this time, she is reigning supreme on the cover of an international magazine, Afropolitain Magazine.
The media darling shared the great news on Instagram, along with an image of the magazine cover and captioned it: “Very excited to share my 1st international cover for 2017. Shot on location in New York, THANK YOU so much to the team behind this MAGIC!!…”

The dramatic wine red cover depicts Bonang as an African Queen draped in luxurious fur and badass accessories, plus a crown. It appears Bonang shot the cover while on a New York trip sometime last year. The New York based magazine opened it’s pages in early 2016 with the aim of representing and showcasing leading Africans across the globe.

The afro lifestyle publication – a double-sided magazine with one side for women and another for men – was started by New Yorker, Keziah Makoundou – a French-born Art Director with Congo and Ivory Coast origins.
Keziah has worked for big American publications such as Uptown and Vibe Magazines. Bonang is the second African woman to grace the mag’s cover with Nigerian-born NBA star, Masai Ujiri making the cut on the male section.
New York based philanthropist and international model, Noella Coursaris from Congo was the first woman to feature on Afropolitain in April while her fellow countryman and US-based NBA player, Serge Ibaka graced the men’s section of the mag.
Bonang is seriously spreading her wings and is set to be internationally known as the print mag is available in the US and Europe – digital versions can be accessed worldwide.
Bonang, like other great celebs putting Mzansi on the global map, is owning it and murdering this life thing. It really must be that African Butter! Nice one MegaBee!
What are your thoughts on Bonang’s first international magazine cover?
