Can Do announced its headline sponsorship of the Soweto Beer Festival which will be held at the SHAP Stadium, opposite Mofolo Park, Mofolo, Soweto from 26 – 29 October, for the second year running. CAN DO! consumer facing brand for Nampak Bevcan (beverage can manufacturers) has unveiled an exciting line up of activities for the tasty four day event. The festival, which has enjoyed overwhelming success and growth since inception in 1999, was conceptualised by Godfrey Mautloa owner of Masakeng Restaurant and Bar in Mofolo.
The objective of the festival is to bring together good friends to share good food and appreciate locally home brewed Umqombothi and over (40) local and international beer brands, in cans. CAN DO! Sales and Marketing Director, Klaus Hass: “We are incredibly excited to once again partner with Keke Makhetha, Billy Chaka Lerathabo and Masakeng in bringing the Soweto Beer Festival to the community. Keke, Billy and their team have a phenomenal reputation for organising responsible entertainment activities and as a beverage can manufacturer that looks to keep the trend going, we couldn’t ask for a more appropriate CAN festival affiliate.”
The festival was created to generate appreciation of the different flavours of beer as one does wine as well as showcase the benefits of canning beer – in this instance, the fact that beverage cans chill faster and stay colder for longer, a perfect combination for any occasion. The taste and integrity of Beer is also affected negatively by light, cans are 100% light proof keeping the product inside fresh and tasty. These are a few reasons why beverage cans are a popular and effective method for packaging beverages, the world over. CAN DO! will provide the entertainment at the festival with the much anticipated auditions of the ‘I CAN Be Famous’ talent search, hosted by King of Kwaito, Arthur Mafokate and his talent scouts. The auditions will take place daily on the main stage from 14:00-15:00 and 18:00-19:00.
Furthermore, an exciting fashion show with beverage can inspired designs by Sonwabile Ndamase, will take centre stage, further demonstrating the versatility of cans. This will be followed by fireworks display and much more on Satruday evening. The festival attracts a diverse crowd of visitors, which includes Sowetans, national and international tourists – over 80 000 people attend the four day event. People visit the festival to experience the vibrancy of Soweto and entertainment by local artists. This accompanied by classic Soweto “cuisine” including, pap & vleis, Kota, and magwinya. Visitors will be treated to live entertainment, including DJs and MCs from various Gauteng based radio stations: LIVE House Music in Collaboration with DJs Mgedeza, Mandla, Tshepo Jnr, Wex, DJ Claude, DJ Fresca, DJ Linda, Killa Mafra and Mayibuye, on Friday. The Saturday line-up is as follows: DJ Governor, DJ Cya, Brian Blaq, DJ Linda, Lil O’, Bradley, Killa Mafra, DJ Ganyani and Prince.
