Mzansi woke up to the shock news of the unfortunate death of ex Generations actor, Mandla Hlatshwayo. Mandla has not even been buried and already drama is stirring up. According to a few newspaper reports, there appears to be a family feud and conflict on who should be Mandla’s official “mourner”.
Sowetan reports that the Hlatshwayo family has said to have chosen Mandla’s girlfriend, only known as “Mami”, to sit on the “mourning mattress, and not his wife, Amanda with whom he shares two children. Reports state that Mandla was married to Amanda for 12 years and had separated for five without officially divorcing.
According to the publication, Amanda visited the family on Monday and found Mami on the mourning mattress. Amanda and Mandla’s 14-year-old daughter, Bonolo, told Sowetan that the Hlatswayo’s had been excluding them from all funeral activities, despite the great relationship their dad had with them as his kids.
“We were shocked to see the family supporting someone that my father ended the relationship with a long time ago,”
Bonolo said, adding that her father had broken up with Mami at the time of his death and was returning to his family.
Mandla’s sister Maggie rubbished Bonolo’s claims and told Sowetan that Mami was chosen to sit on the mattress because she was “closer” to Mandla, even on the eve of his death. “It’s not true that they are sidelined. They’ve been coming to the house. My mother allowed Mami to sit on the mattress because Amanda and Mandla were divorced,” Maggie said.
Daily Sun, on the other hand, reports even more drama. According to the tabloid’s source, another woman named Kombi Ngubane who has been revealed as Mandla’s baby mama, has also been sidelined by the Hlatshwayo family.
The newspaper reports that Mandla and Kombi had been together for five years and share a son who turns two years next month. The newspaper’s source states that Kombi has been told not to come near the Hlatshwayo home or mourn Mandla, despite Mandla having “paid lobola for her in 2014”.
It’s alleged that Kombi received a call from Mandla’s brother and told not to “count on being the chief mourner” as she was not welcome at their home. The source says Mandla’s family never welcomed Kombi or accepted their relationship.
The newspaper spoke to Mandla’s brother, Lucky, who dismissed the claims, saying that anyone was welcome. “We want to give our brother a dignified funeral and his children are welcome to attend. Whoever told you that we don’t want the baby mamas to attend should give you an explanation. We know nothing about that,” Lucky said.
Eish. It’s sad when dirty laundry comes out at a time when families should be burying their loved ones in peace. Your thoughts on this story and allegations?
