The 3rd of October 2012 saw South Africa’s film elite join forces to support the launch of the second year of competition of the Jameson First Shot initiative. Hosted at La Cucina di Ciro with Tumisho Masha as MC, guests including Carmel Fisher, David Kau, Elma Smit, Faye Peters, Catriola Andrews, Josette Eales, Lorna Maseko, Jay Anstey, Keenan Arrison, Presley Chweneyagae, Rosie Motena, Tyrone Keogh, Jen Su, Trevor Gumbi, Pearl Thusi, Katleho Ramaphakela, Maps, Maponyane, Hayley Owen and Michelle Bradshaw, discovered that another three exceptional writer/directors from South Africa, Russia and the USA respectively, will receive the opportunity of a lifetime to direct a major Hollywood star in their short film with the backing of award-winning production company, Trigger Street Productions. In an exciting new development, the winners will not only get to work with acting legend Kevin Spacey in his role as Creative Director, but they will also get the chance to direct another Hollywood A-lister, Willem Dafoe in their short film.
Talented filmmakers looking for their big break need to submit a script of no more than seven pages via www.jamesonfirstshot.com by 1 January 2013. Inspired by one of three themes; ‘legendary’ or ‘humorous’ or a ‘very tall tale’, all submitted scripts will be judged by an expert team including Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, President of Trigger Street Productions and Willem Dafoe. Jameson First Shot had a successful start in Year 1, receiving over 740 entries, with the three winning films garnering over 5.4 million views between them. South African’s can expect yet another star-studded premier of the winning South African short film in 2013, where Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti and Willem Dafoe will all be in attendance. Kevin Spacey commented: “In the first year of the competition we found three outstanding filmmakers and as a result we made three incredible films. Everyone’s expectations are extremely high for the second year so the entrants for 2013 have a lot to live up to and, if it’s possible, they have even more pressure on them to write a great story and direct an amazing film. We know the prize we’re offering is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; now we need to find the talent who are worthy winners.” For full details on how to enter plus exclusive videos and tips from Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, visit www.jamesonfirstshot.com
