BATTLE OF THE BANDS FINALISTS TO COMPETE FOR THE CHANCE TO PERFORM AT AFROPUNK JOBURG
Following an exciting list of entries from talented artists across South Africa, AFROPUNK has selected the top four finalists to compete on November 30th at the Battle Of The Bands competition. The call to entry, which was announced in September by AFROPUNK, attracted a large number of upcoming artists who submitted their music via the organisation’s website, with hopes of becoming crowned as the 2019 Battle Of The Bands winner.
Expected to compete at the final Battle Of The Bands competition are Raspy, Muneyi, Shameless and Yanga Yaya. The finalists were selected through a public voting system hosted on AFROPUNK.com where fans got to vote for their favourite band, putting them a step closer to the finals. Each of the finalists will go head to head and is expected to impress fans and a panel of judges which include AFROPUNK co-founder, Matthew Morgan and many other industry leaders.
The winning band will be sharing the stage with local legends and international superstars at the AFROPUNK Festival taking place at Constitution Hill on 30 & 31 December 2019. In addition to performing at the festival, the winning act will win a distribution deal with Africa’s foremost artist development hub, AFRICORI, who are official partners for Battle Of The Bands contest.
AFROPUNK and Africori will also host a two-day seminar on November 28 & 29, to help all finalists with tools they need to take their careers to the next level.
The competition is a challenge for unsigned acts to showcase their musical skills for a chance to perform at the main AFROPUNK Festival in December. The competition, now in its third instalment in South Africa, has unearthed incredible musicians such as 2018 winners Red
Robyn and Ikati Esengxoweni along with Automatic Live and Stiff Pap who won the competition in 2017.
We are happy to announce that SAMRO as brand partner for the 2019 Battle of the Bands competition.
