Are you feeling funny? Are you a repressed king or queen of the one-liner? A clandestine champion of the cutting remark? Does your witty repartee get your friends rolling in the aisles at your comical observations and killer jokes? Well, if you think you have your finger in the nation’s comedy pulse, and that you’re the next Trevor Noah in the making, then now’s the time to get involved in Comedy Central’s new search for an undiscovered South Africa comedy star! Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) will be running an amateur talent content at Sunday-nite stand-up fixture The Box Comedy Nights, with the connivance of hilarious stand-up comedians and MCs Goliath&Goliath (@Goliath_Goliath), and the POPArt Theatre, (@POPArtJHB), Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg.
Every Sunday night from 7 April, Comedy Central is reserving two open mic slots for comedy wannabes who want to try out their sets before a live audience. Each week, one winner will be chosen by the audience and Goliath&Goliath, with 8 candidates going forward to a special finale on 2 June. The ultimate winner will get his break at Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s (26 June), hosted by comedy legend Joe Parker, alongside other top comics. The episode featuring the winner will broadcast on Comedy Central on Friday 16 August at 20:55 CAT. Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central Africa, “Comedy is practically a national sport in South African so Comedy Central is delighted to offer this sporting chance for undiscovered talent to get a break at the comedy big-time on our channel.” To make your bid for comedy stardom, go to www.comedycentralafrica.com and follow the application instructions.
