Gemona, a town in north-eastern Italy, has its roots in medieval times and one of the main attractions is the 14th Century cathedral. Another is Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympian murder accused who considered it his “home from home.” And, as Carte Blanche found, it’s one of few places where his name is still in lights.

Pope Benedict stunned the Catholic church last month when he stepped down, becoming the first pontiff to do so in 600 years. This week, cardinals from around the world gathered at the Vatican to assess the challenges that face the next Pope. Carte Blanche was in Rome.
