Brandon ‘The Curse’ Petersen took on the country’s best B-boys to come out victorious at the Red Bull BC One South African cypher on Saturday, 7 July 2012. In a contentious and closely fought final against B-boy Silent Sam, The Curse used his full arsenal of toprock, power moves and footwork. This arsenal combined with his musicality and rhythm throughout the rounds made him indomitable. “I don’t even know what to feel. That is how overwhelmed I am,” said an emotional The Curse. “Winning this Red Bull BC One cypher wasn’t always a goal, but I made it a priority. I approach every battle like it is my last. I gave this battle my all from the very first step.” Internationally renowned B-boy Kid David (Renegade Rockers, USA), was impressed on his first trip to the country: “The South African crowd is much better than what we have in the USA – South Africa is very lucky. Being a part of a battle, you never know what to expect or who will win, but B-Boy The Curse won tonight because his style is clean and he executed every move throughout the competition. He went on to say: “It was always my dream to come to South Africa. The talent here is good with lots of original styles and a refreshing and organic energy.” The Curse goes on to represent South Africa at the Red Bull BC One Regional Middle East and Africa Cypher in Casablanca, Morocco on September, 14 2012.
