27-year old singing sensation Dato Seiko has officially released her viral TikTok sound, The Vow. Dato Seiko wrote The Vow, at first, as an affirmations exercise, imagining what it might feel like to have someone read out those words to her one day but this internal dialogue would turn into a career milestone. Since releasing the sound on TikTok, The Vow has gardened over 44K creations on TikTok which have collectively drawn well over 44.8 million views on the platform.
“When I wrote The Vow, I was just sitting at home watching a wedding scene and I started wondering what I would want to hear on my wedding day as someone’s vows to me. And then I started writing vows for myself. I mean on your special day, you’d want to feel like the most important person in the room, and you’d want someone to see the GOD in you, see you as a blessing and reaffirm that thought every single day. The lyrics are poetry, describing how much of an impact you make in a person’s life, and how much they regard you as a blessing, and the melody was just inspired by the lyrics to sound like something someone would walk down the aisle to. In that moment I realised I might want to be a ghost writer for vows,” said Dato.
Dato’s voice, accompanied by an acoustic guitar feels vulnerable yet certain. The singer-songwriter notes:
“The song’s lyrical content and the use of the guitar work in harmony to amplify the profound importance of love, devotion, and the unbreakable bond that comes with being fully in love with yourself or someone else. It serves as a perfect choice for any wedding, providing a heartfelt reminder of the power of love and the significance of the vows exchanged.”
Since her last EP, The Grace Effect (2021) – with tracks from this release still charting on Apple Music – Dato continues to carve her own journey in music with The Vow. Recently signed to Warner Music Africa, global domination is on the cards with the young Botswana artist, but a key objective for her is to always connect people more deeply to her music.
