Award-winning house music producer DJ Cleo has long been threatening to put his music career on hold to follow his passion for soccer, and this weekend he followed through, with the help of Nedbank. He joined thousands of other budding soccer stars for the final round of Nedbank Ke Yona Team search tryouts at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium, all hoping for a chance to be part of the team that will challenge the recently crowned Nedbank Cup 2014 champions a few months from now.
While none of the legendary Ke Yona Team Search Selectors – Shakes Mashaba, Khabo Zondo, Owen Da Gama and Mike Mangena – would be drawn on Cleo’s performance on the field, the DJ was mobbed by fans of all ages wanting to take photos with him. “I got here at 06h30 and stood in line like everyone else and went through the normal registration process like everyone did. I didn’t want any special treatment, I just humbled myself and became one with the other guys,” said the popular DJ.
“I believe I was in my element today and played a good two rounds with the team. I feel really good about my performance and I’m hoping to make it to the next round.”
