It’s no secret; DJ Milkshake has finally stepped into the studio. His razor-sharp technical skills and ability to read and rock any dancefloor have made him one of the country’s top-rated DJs. After devoting years to wrecking havoc in clubs around the country and bringing the hottest sounds together for his hugely popular radio show on 5FM – he has moved into the producer’s chair. His debut single as an YFM Top 40 and the excitement is soaring ahead of the imminent release of the accompanying music video – which was shot last week in Newtown.
The track coalesces all of Milkshake’s influences and unites some of the like-minded musicians he’s met on his journey. The process started in July last year when Milkshake met up with award-winning beat boxer, and hotly tipped producer George Avakian to start work on his new project. “As my first song as an artist I really wanted to send a message to people that would hear my song and know exactly where I am at in my life,” he explains “this is the idea behind the title ‘Living on the Edge’. I felt that it would help launch my musical career and introduce me into the game.”
By August 2012 most of the song was complete. The final piece of the puzzle was choosing the artist to lay down rhymes on the freshly created beat. Milkshake’s first option, multi-award winner AKA wrote and recorded rhymes a few months later. “When I heard the beat and the hook, I knew it would be a hit.” explains AKA, “I think Milkshake did a fantastic job of getting George and I together in the studio. The song is a great soundtrack for anybody who wants to have a good time and you can’t help but sing along.”
Although the video was shot last week in Newtown, the concept was ready long before. “The best part about producing this song was the fact that I always pictured the music video whilst in studio” says Milkshake. “The meaning behind the chorus is that too many people talk about what they are going to do and procrastinate but they never walk the walk, so I wanted to say – it’s time to stop talking and start living.”
A tight lid has been kept on any details ahead of the video’s release this week – but fans can except to see all three stars ignite the screen in a high impact video.
