Earlier on today the media gathered at Starbucks in Rosebank, eagerly awaiting to hear a huge announcement from radio personality and social entrepreneur Sibusiso Leope popularly known as DJ Sbu. The speculation was heavy and the air of anticipation hung in the air. When the time finally came, we were never ready!
DJ Sbu has broken barriers and is in the forefront of a massive game changer within the media industry in South Africa. He is working in partnership with Vuma FM in KZN and Rise FM in Mpumalanga to host a breakfast show on both these platforms and they will broadcast at the same time. How dope is that? Hold on to your seats, this is the game changer, he is merging television and radio and the breakfast will be shot and watched live on television! This is definitely history in the making!

He is also collaborating with the Times Media Group and the show will be broadcast on their television platforms 1KZN TV in KwaZulu-Natal (DSTV Channel 261) and nationally on Soweto TV (DSTV Channel 251) from 6-9am Monday to Friday. The breakfast show will make its massive debut on the 4th of July; keep your eyes peeled and your ears on the ground!
When speaking about the genesis of this project, DJ Sbu said: “I kind of felt that the industry was stale, there was nothing new, there’s nothing fresh that anybody is offering”. But when he started talking to possible partners about what hasn’t been done and what can be done, they have eventually come up with a new model that the Times Live Media Group has embraced.

Ferdinand Mabalane, program director across Rise and Vuma FM Tony Mallam and managing director of Times Media radio
Three gentlemen that have been in the forefront of pioneering this concept are Tony Mallam, managing director of Times Media radio and Ferdinand Mabalane, program director across Rise and Vuma FM are also part of the team that are hoping to change the world of radio and change their community radio station until they are national stations.

He mentioned that they will not become an exclusively Johannesburg show but he will be travelling all over the country and will be broadcasting the show in Gauteng at the Times Media Group studios. Furthermore, he will also be in Mpumalanga at the Rise FM studios and Vuma FM at their KZN studios. The show will look at lifestyle, sport, entrepreneurship, education and leadership.
