Award-winning South African based, Nigerian DJ sensation, DJ Waxxy is back with a new one. The DJ is known for making hits has once again lived up to the expectations, with the release of long awaited music video for One Love. One Love features a star-studded line up of Buffalo Souljah, Reason, Blaklez and Taygrin from Malawi.
One Love delivers a strong message of love with a fresh breath that appeals to all and is guaranteed to be a classical African love song. The song is inspired by Bob Marely and The Wailer’s 1977 revolutionary song of the same name.
DJ Waxxy is well known for his flexibility in playing R&B, Reggea, dancehall, hip-hop and house music on his set while he was a Channel O Vee-Jay. DJ Waxxy’s sound has been lauded by many both locally and internationally for being distinct, intriguing and proudly African. This is the same sense we get on One Love.
Buffalo Souljah is blissful on the first verse and the hook. Reason and Blaklez add the dense and meaningful verses while Taygrin was a pleasant surprise. What the gents have in common is that they are rapping about the plight of so many Africans who are plagued by poverty and war. They are preaching about what has been the downfall of so many and highlight that love of self has to be the biggest lesson going forward. One Love.
The visuals for One Love are simple but compelling. Shot by Studio Space Pictures, the music video is primarily shot in a studio space with cutaways of powerful African Leaders. What is compelling about the music video is that it was shot entirely in black and white, making the message of the song stand out a little deeper.
