Afro-Soul is a growing and well loved genre in the country and we see this with the emergence of new and fresh talent who contribute to this growth. Meet the new wave of this popular genre, trio and Muthaland signees, 047.
Originally from Umthatha, 047 has the elements of a group that is going to dynamically change the musical landscape in South Africa. Not only is the trio proud of their Xhosa roots and incorporate that in their music they are all musically gifted and being aged between 19 and 21 they bring a vivid melodical offering to the scene. All the members of 047 are from Umthatha namely, Mbuqe and Bhongweni.
The 047 trio members are Sihle (21), Lihle (20) and Ngcali (19). They started singing at least 5 years ago after meeting at a talent show and have never stopped. Their passion for music is what unites them and in their own words “we use our music to tell stories”.
The trio say they are inspired by The Soil, Vusi Nova, Nathi, Ringo and Afroctration to name a few. If you ever watch 047 perform live what sets them apart is their natural stage presence, precision in the delivery of their craft and their passion for the story they are telling is visible in their voices.
Although fresh and new in the musical industry they have already shared the stage with the King of Afro Pop Ntando and their mentor Vusi Nova at the recent album launch for Ntando. They had the privilege of singing their debut single Ubuhle in front of a live audience at the Soweto Theatre and judging by the ladies’ response it is safe to say we will be seeing more of them. They have officially dropped their single, Ubuhle featuring multi-award winning artist Vusi Nova.
