How refreshing is it to find a man who can sing? Granted, there are plenty of those around but how often do you get blown away by the talent? Well in South Africa, dudes like Tellaman and Tshego are making this singing/raping thing cool again by coming with melodies and lyrics that are not only creative but also quite relatable. Meet M.A.T, the next big thing that you should not sleep on, ever.
M.A.T., real name Matthews Judas Sithole, is a recording artist, producer and songwriter who was born in Limpopo but reps a small town called Kriel in Mpumalanga.
M.A.T moved to Kriel at the age of around 8 to 9 years old because of schooling and his father’s job. He was introduced to music by his older brother who used to bump hip hop and M.A.T fell in love. he recorded his first verse at age 17 and has never turned back.
M.A.T has worked on music with different artists in and out of South Africa. This has led him to the cusp of his career as he has recently dropped his EP, Soulful, under Newtown based label G63 Music, owned by Tebogo Trevor Tlale.
The EP is proper soulful and features M.A.T showing off his vocal prowess in subtle and meaningful ways. His sound is a fusion of soul and pop with nuances of trap; he sounds almost similar to Frank Ocean when he started out. It’s not a bad listen.
