Every once in a while we find artists who are difficult to ignore. Today, we take a closer look at rapper and songwriter, Joel Parker, don’t sleep on him.
Joel Parker is a rapper and songwriter from the Free State town of Masilo, Theunissen. Formerly known as Swrdz X, he has re-invented himself into Joel Parker, an anagram based on the Heath Ledger’s Joker.
Joel is a well rounded artist who has released one mixtape, The Sounding and two EPs, The Premonition and Street Values. On the EP’s he got creative and used beats from DJ Premier as well as from Riky Rick’s Family Values.
In addition to all the music he puts out, Joel puts out a weekly series called the Joker Series. This is an anagram for Joel Parker inspired by Heath Ledger.
The first episode was produced by a free beat that Osmic gave out. Joel kills it with his unique delivery and interesting flow and the series is on its 7th episode. From this series, it is obvious to see that he puts plenty of thought in his music. He makes a point that he highlights his strengths as a rapper.
The talented rapper released Makubelit stylized as MKBLT, which is taken from his upcoming EP, Plaas Or Mine U. The single is an energetic joint which sees Joel Parker flex on a Dave Goliath Trap beat.
Through his EP, Parker seeks to introduce everyone to the self-invented slang and catch phrases between him and his friends. The title of the EP is unapologetically Free State (mines and farms) with a witty play on words and is also an ode to his family sides. Having been born on a farm himself, he has managed to infuse his love for hip hop with his direct life experiences.
