Dope Fellas is a male group which consists of three individuals who share a common goal which is to deliver diversity wrapped with uniqueness to the hip hop culture. The three members are  Tshepo Motsiri, Thebehali Hlalele and Shaun Trampa. They met in Pretoria as students who used to stay in the same residence, they had humble beginnings as they used to host rap ciphers on the stair case of their student accommodation. Despite coming from completely different backgrounds, the trio was drawn together and they are on a mission to take Mzansi hip hop to the next level. They say that their style is versatile as it is influenced by the likes of 9th Wonder, Young Thug, Proverb and Anatii. “Every song is approached according to the type of melody the beat carries hence our sound is very versatile. We don’t like to put our self in a box when it comes to music, we do what we want when we want, we have trap songs, we have thoughtful conscious songs, we pride ourselves in making music. Not just rap songs” they say.

“The difference between us and other rap crews is that we are very open to any kind of musical ideas and concepts because most of our time is spent studying the difference between hits, turn up songs and good music. Another thing that sets us apart is that we believe in originality, we want a person to know that this is a Dope Fella’s track without mistaking it for any other artist. Although we get inspired by other artists we try our best not to copy anyone else in the game.” Ke etsa fela, their first official single release is a Sotho phrase  that means “doing whatever.” They saw an opportunity when they realised that local hip hop lacks some Sotho rappers in the mainstream so they are going in for the kill.

“In the next 3 to 5 years we believe Dope Fellas will be the biggest rap crew in the industry because the sound we are bringing to the market is very diverse” they conclude.
