Boombox Easter Picnic
Sunday the 21st of April 2019, during the Easter weekend at Soshanguve Mini Stadium
Sunday Belongs To Deep, better known by its infamous syllables SBTD and head phoned emoji grew from being just a chill thing to being a picnic themed event. Its success grew from stride to stride and the team maintained its consistency of creating a never seen before ambient focused event. The youth owners of SBTD brand, all born and raised in Soshanguve – North side of Pretoria, saw a need to establish a conceptualized events in Soshanguve, that are more about creativity than a lineup of artists.
To the fans of this Soshanguve youth based Entertainment Company, these guys are the guardians of their music selection and creativity, hence they trust them whole heartedly with being able to deliver nothing but a serenating experience in music and events.
From the success of SBTD brand, now Guys Lyk Us Entertainment a company owned by the same youth that owns SBTD, have opted to grow the family by introducing a masterfully curated music event that covers multiple genres of music.
Victor Kotlolo, co-owner of Guys Lyk Us Entertainment Company shared a story of how Boombox Easter Picnic was formed, “We had called our friends to come and chill with us at the park and one of them had brought a bluetooth speaker, when her phone battery elapsed. She suggested that anyone of us can connect and play any kind of music. The competition to fight for who would play his or her (genre choice) – led us to the conclusion that each and every one of us deserved to connect and play what they feel best represented them. With one golden rule that we should tell the story of what the playlist meant to our lives”.
“With that being said… we took this idea to a bigger scale, we knew very well that there’s other friends out there who needed to reconnect to the people they once considered besties and bra van mei. And then came Boombox Easter Picnic, an event that would be in the same weekend as the Easter holidays, a time for family. As Guys Lyk Us Entertainment, we knew the importance of none bloodline family, and so we have curated an event specially for those great friendships that need rekindling through music.” added Lesego Skosana, also co-owner of Guys Lyk Us Entertainment.
Boombox Easter Picnic will feature the likes of Ms Cosmo, who is well known as a hip hop dj and also has a radio show on 5fm during weekends. Another exciting act on the lineup is Jazzi Disciples who are the cream of amapiano sound currently, and have the most followers on social media – without also forgetting Kid Fonque who is no stranger to deep house followers that listen to his Sunday deep house show also on 5fm.
Lesego said: “What’s exciting about the three headliners on our lineup, they were voted by the public. We ran a poll on who will they like to see on the Boombox stage, and those three names were the most voted ones, as they represent all music genres which will be played at the event”.
Local deejays who are all unique based on the style of music they play, will also be there to ensure that event attendees are well represented with commercial house music and their own interpretation of what the headliners will be playing.
The future of kasi monate (township vibe) is in good hands if we continuously find ourselves amongst such ingenious creators like the Guys Lyk Us crew – who will someday reach the height of other most celebrated events such as Oppikopi, Rocking The Daisies just to name a few. Early birds are sold-out, but you can still general ticket for R80 & VIP ticket for R300 both at Computicket.
