As part of the inspiring Adidas #ImpossibleIsNothing campaign, we caught up with popular local musician Dee Koala to chat about how she got involved with the fresh new project.
We see that you helped in producing Siya Kolisi’s campaign video – If you could please tell us a little more about the experience of getting involved with that?
I was very honoured to be a part of this inspirational campaign about a fellow Xhosa brother and role model. Narrating his achievements and his story, relating to our everyday struggles, was very heartwarming. I narrated every word of that script with pure love and pride.
When you look at the campaign message, #ImpossibleIsNothing – What first comes to mind in terms of its meaning to you?
Impossible Is Nothing, to me, means that you can do and/or achieve anything you put your mind to. The sky is not the limit, you can go above and beyond.
As a young artist who has grown to make it big – What are some of the challenges you faced that seemed impossible at the time but somehow managed to conquer & overcome?
My biggest challenge thus far has been dealing my personal life problems and mishaps whilst having to show up for my brand, Dee Koala, and smile for the cameras. I have overcome it by not putting myself under a lot of pressure and prioritizing my well-being more often.
Given those circumstances mentioned above and how life can sometimes be challenging – How do you think this campaign by Adidas will help the youth in reaching & constantly chasing their dreams?
Siya Kolisi has shown the entire world that your background and past can mold you and help you become the best version of yourself. I look at where I come from, Khayelitsha, and I don’t take it as a disadvantage; I take it as motivation to inspire younger generations that dreams do come true.
As you reflect on the campaign and the part you played in making it possible – What word of advice do you have for young aspiring artists and creatives?
As a young creative and recording artist, be aware of what you want to achieve in the industry and focus. Never let your guard down because there are some people who might not share the same vision as you and try bring you down. Never change who you are to impress other people and do what you do best. Impossible is nothing and I am a living testimony of that!
