Fiercely funny comedienne Tumi Morake shows her stripes as the first woman comic to headline Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s (Comedy Central, DStv Channel 122, 20:55 CAT, 16 November), the stand-up comedy programme that puts the spotlight on South African comedy talent. In Comedy Central Presents Tumi Morake Live at Parker’s, taped at Parker’s Comedy & Jive, Montecasino, Johannesburg, in September 2012, Morake (@Tumi_Morake) demonstrates just why she’s lauded as South Africa’s top female comedian, commanding the stage with her intelligent, outspoken and provocative brand of comedy. Morake began her comedy journey in a student production of Shakespeare’s “12th Night” playing the role of “Feste,” the clown.
It turned out to be a fitting and prophetic role for Morake whose has subsequently received praise as a screenwriter, actress and comedian. Morake’s biggest comedy gigs to date have included emcee-ing the Woodstock Festival, being part of the line-up for 46664’s “It’s No Joke”, being the only woman in the Vodacom Funny Festival and appearing in her critically acclaimed one-woman show “Herstory”. Morake was recently selected to MC Comedy Central’s first African “Roast”, “The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr”. Supporting Morake in the hilarious comedy showcase are Eddie Eckstein, Martin Evans, Jason Goliath and Loyiso Madinga.
