Born and bred in Tembisa, Nhlanhla Tshabalala also known as Frank Casino is an up and coming rapper currently signed under Dapper Gang Records. He is finally releasing his first official single “Whole Thing” following the song “Sauce Feat. Priddy Ugly”. The song “Sauce” was quite a success and caught the attention of international media and subsequently made it into radio in March 2016. Many still argue that it should be regarded as his debut single. No worries though, “Whole Thing”, which introduces Casino’s new sound, “heralds the arrival of Frank Casino as a force to be reckoned with.”
He began recording music back in 2004 and he is now regarded as the ‘next international break-through artist to look out for’ – what many have echoed many a time. When I first listened to his song, I swore he is some American rapper just based on his sound but he is proudly South African. His songs are on that chant-like steez that make you want to sing along. It’s quite catchy.
What makes the type of rap he does different is his “international sounding” style because the current landscape of hip hop leans more to celebrating what makes us uniquely South African such as adding Kwaito influences in the music. It is, however, not a bad thing that Frank Casino decided to go a different route. That’s his journey. In fact, it is quite obvious that he’s sound was majorly influenced by A$AP Rocky.
