Four time South African Hip Hop Award winner and University of Witwatersrand (WITS) Dean’s list student, Gigi Lamayne, has been releasing video freestyles every Friday in August to commemorate Woman’s Month. Woman’s Month historically is a very important calendar month for women across South Africa, and in celebrating women, Lamayne has chosen to express the various sides to her, as she celebrates and gives tribute to women in history who have inspired New Politics, Music and Entertainment.
She has named her weekly video freestyle series #IronLady. Iron Lady is a nickname that has frequently been used to describe female heads of state. The term describes a “strong willed” woman and Gigi has used this interpretation to embody herself. The public reception to her freestyles has been phenomenal with the latest freestyle #MiriamMakeba currently going viral on social media. As a result, Gigi’s freestyles have now been picked up by Channel O and are on high rotation for the next week on the channel. YFM have also picked up the freestyles and are airing the audio clips of the freestyles weekly on Linda Mbuso’s Saturday afternoon show.

Gigi Lamayne will also be dropping a brand new follow up single to her debut smash hit “Ice Cream (Remix)” featuring Khuli Chana! The new single is titled “Jungle Fever” and promises to be one of the songs to fill up dance floors across the continent this spring and summer! It has already started receiving high rotating on YFM to amazing response and will be widely sampled to all radio stations in the week starting the 17th of August!
