Last week Zakes Bantwini dropped his latest music video for ‘Mama Thula’, a favourite song which was created in collaboration with Skye Wanda and Thakzin with a feature from Suffocate SA that stems from his 2023 A Star is Reborn album. From a narrative point of view, not only does the song present itself as ode to Motherhood but it offers a moment of reflection for the Grammy-winning artist as seen on the new music video
Directed by Kuda Jemba, the visuals find Zakes visiting a theatre and having a reminiscent moment that finds him looking back at old clip of his musical journey which also includes the major role that his late mother through it all. The showcase is bittersweet but leans more towards a celebration of life which includes the falls, pains and ultimately triumphs that all also play vital roles in pursuit of who you are meant to be…
