Hipnotik music festival was everything and then some. With more than 4500 capacity crowd filling up El Paradiso, Ezulwini Swaziland. This year’s edition was an out of this world experience, in addition with dope production! A jam packed all star lineup that included Aka n Da Les, Siya Shezi, 80 Script, Tendaness, Kid Nice with Adrienne Foo, Kwesta, Reason and Cassper Nyovest.
80 Script did a great job of warming up the festival. Siya Shezi followed up with a temperature raising set. Kwesta has come off age as an artist and live performer. He mastered the art of a well executed set, engaging with the audience and kept the momentum of his set at a high pace despite a momentary glitch with the sound. AKA n Da Les stage chemistry just works ok!
They had variety to their set when they performed new songs from Levels and Mandela Money respectively.
When Aka performed “Run Jozi” one couldn’t help but wish for KO to teleport to the stage and perform his verse. Of which I declare it a national treasure. Kid Nice and Adrienne Foo set had it’s good moments, but the were far too many patches in their set. With the crowd struggling to engage with some of the songs. Cometh the man, cometh the moment and man did Cassper Nyovest own it! You wouldn’t be blamed if you had mistaken his set as the second coming of bra Jesus. Women and men alike were fainting left, right and center, crying while reciting every word to his songs.
Emphasis on Every, I mean in all my years of attending festivals I have never witnessed such a powerful set with a touch of showmanship. If this year’s edition was anything to go by, Hipnotik 2015 promises to be epic.
