In celebration of Africa Day on 25 May, African Fashion International (AFI) is preparing to host an intimate dinner gathering/fashion and music event experience.
Aimed at appreciating African fashion trailblazers and creatives, the evening will consist of an exciting line-up of fashion runway collections ranging from different regions within the continent of Africa. As for who will be showcasing on Africa Day, David Tlale will be representing southern Africa, Mahrouf will be representing the North while Ituen Basi will be representing the west and Masa Mara representing the east. And for the entertainment, music and dance performances by highly acclaimed artists such as Ayo Solanke, the Ndlovu Youth Choir and Vuyani Dance Co can be expected.
“The AU’s Agenda 2063 aspires for, amongst others, cultural identity and heritage that contributes to Africa’s transformation. The notion of renaissance, which refers to the European period of transformation that was driven by philosophy, literature and art, calls on us to rediscover and elevate the arts to form Africa into a hub of creativity and innovation.”
– Founder and Chief Executive of African Fashion International (AFI), Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, AFI Fashion Week received its very first South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) nomination for Best Online Content.
“Nominated under the new SAFTA category of online content, this acknowledgement serves as a testament to AFI’s inventive spirit. AFI has been a pioneering producer of pan-African platforms that showcase and support emerging and established African creatives, bringing together international and continental fashion designers, critics and industry leaders since 2008.”
