Back on the fashion scene again we have Durban Fashion Fair coming through with yet another addition of their annual mentorship programme.
The programme which was designed to create opportunities for rising fashion designers consists of a number of different skill building opportunities ranging from business development to technical skills. In this year’s programme, the students will be coached by the Founder and CEO of Fezile Fashion Skills Academy, Fezile Mdletshe.
“We aimed to unearth fresh talent and provide necessary mentorship to encourage self-employment by sharpening designer’s skills so they can, in turn, create employment for others.”

Following the mentorship, the emerging designers will then progress to the September showcase where they will have to present their collections at the Durban Fashion Fair which will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre from 21 to 23 September.
In addition to running their mentorship programme, Durban Fashion Fair has also partnered up with the Hollywoodbets Durban July in presenting the Young Designer Award. Durban Fashion Fair shared further information regarding the showcase of the talented designers in a recent Instagram post, saying:
“After they showcased, the room went abuzz with the news that the @hwfoundation had committed R250 000 to support the above mentioned emerging designers careers for the Hollywoodbets enterprise social development programme. This investment, through the Hollywood Bets Foundation which pledges to assist these designers with their respective business development needs and funding not only for machinery but also for tools required to conduct their growing small businesses which will in the long term contribute to the local retail clothing economy and employment opportunities to expand.”
