Amapiano on the other hand is greatly represented with the kings of the genre, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small holding strong for the genre. Kabza has a whopping 4 songs nominated in the Record of The Year category while Maphorisa has 5 nominations in the same category. Between the both of them, they have 3 nominations in the Music Video Of The Year award.

Mobi Dixon is perhaps a name we didn’t expect to run up 4 nominations at this year’s awards. The renowned DJ and producer is nominated for the Best Dance Album, Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year awards for his 14 track album, When House Was House. The album’s title track featuring Mariechan and JNR SA has booked a spot in the Best Produced Music Video category.

Deep and soulful house aficionado, Chymamusique and awe-inspiring hitmaker, Sun-El Musician are tied with 3 nominations each.

With each nomination and body of work that is celebrated this year, dance and eletronic music in South Africa is proving to be multi-facted and diverse. And with its vice grip on the industry, it clearly set the tone for the rest of the year.

The awards will be presented at a live broadcasted event on 31 July.
