The much anticipated return of the award-winning Showmax Original telenovela The Wife, makes a comeback with Wiseman Mncube as Mqhele.
Wiseman Mncube is best known for his outstanding performance as Jama in eHostela. His performance earned him the Best Actor award in a TV Drama Golden Horn at the 2020 SAFTAs. He plays the notorious character of Sibonelo in Uzalo and he stars as the lead character in an upcoming movie titled Shaka iLembe. Wiseman being a multitalented and all-round actor will aid him in playing his new TV role. Series producer Kamogelo Aphane spoke highly of the actor saying that, “Wiseman is a versatile performer with multiple accolades; Mqhele and his madness are in safe hands”. He continued to say that, “Wiseman’s work ethic and command of Zulu will take Mqhele to new heights this season..”
The announcement was made by Stained Glass, which is a multi-award winning production house behind Uzalo, Ifalakhe, Durban Gen, Lingashoni and The Wife. Wiseman replaces Bonko Khoza as Mqhele. Bonko became very well-known for his skillful performance which earned him nominations for DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice and SAFTA Awards. He earned himself “the national husband” title by fans on Twitter.
Wiseman was open regarding his love for the book and show, “What actor wouldn’t want to be part of The Wife?” he asked. “Mqhele is a very interesting role and I’m in my element: there’s a lot to chew on and play off, from the love story to the anger to the care. uBonko carried the role with so much respect and power. I’m not here to replace Bonko but to start my own journey as Mqhele and take things from where he left off and run with it in my own way”.
Even before season 1 of the telenovela, fans on Twitter have been begging for Wiseman to play Mqele. The show has been receiving positive reactions about the announcement on Twitter. The much anticipated show is know for always trending on at 1 on Twitter. Season 3 of The Wife is said to return to TV screens on Showmax in November 2022.
