Thousands of young people around Joburg and surrounding areas attended the 2013 Back to the city festival on the 27th of April at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown. This year the festival expanded from its home outside Ritual Stores, Cnr. Bree and Henry Nxumalo Streets to the much bigger Mary Fitzgerald Square. The concept of this festival is to celebrate hip-hop and youth culture through an afternoon/evening of live performances, street art and exhibitions with the aim of bringing the youth back to the city.
