Eclectic pop artist KC Clarke (from former South London collective, Last Night in Paris “LNIP”) is taking listeners on an otherworldly journey with the release of his new single “Spaceships”. The infectious track arrives as a delightfully escapist ode to the transformative power of love and human connection.
Releasing this song whilst currently in South Africa recording with varies amapiano producers and notable artists such as the likes of Donel Mangena and Simphiwe Dana; 29-year-old KC Clarke is eyeing up 2024 as the year that he plants his flag and releases his debut solo EP which will feature some great names from the South African music scene.
From walking for Maharishi at London Fashion Week and delivering major performances across Glastonbury, Wireless and Soulection to name a few, KC Clarke officially launches his solo music journey with “Spaceships”.
Drawing inspiration from his own experiences as a self-professed dreamer, Clarke explains, “The original idea came from the fact that I can be a bit of dreamer and I’m always in my own world, which to a degree is hard to sway me from, however, meeting this special person had me so invested in them that nothing else around me mattered so that’s why I used the terminology “Spaceships” because a spaceship represents my own little world and reality.” He adds: “As much as my reality is nice, it’s also beautiful to escape from it, and real love can have that effect on us. It’s almost like nothing else matters or exists when you’re together.”
Produced by Roku Beats, “Spaceships” floats across an ethereal soundscape underpinned by Clarke’s airy vocals. The singer-songwriter’s lyrics beckon listeners to let go and savour life’s simplest yet most meaningful pleasures. “There’s not enough love and harmony in this world,” Clarke shares. “So through my music, I hope this record takes you to a place of peace and happiness.”
For Clarke, “Spaceships” holds deep personal significance as one of his first releases following a challenging period. “I had not long come out of a bad time in my life, both personally and creatively,” he reveals. “This was one of the first songs I recorded after overcoming that hurdle.”
With its message of self-love, seizing the day, and human connection, “Spaceships” promises a transcendent escape and reminder to live life to the fullest. “I hope people feel a sense of freedom and playfulness,” Clarke says of how he wants audiences to experience the track. “Life is too short not to be happy…this record is a reminder to live it with no regrets.”
