Just like many musos do on Fridays, a lot of South African artists are dropping new music today! Remember when we reported that Khanyi Mbau is set to drop her new single, well it has happened. She just dropped her brand new single called Shake. The multi talented singer has proved that she is the Jill of all trades. If she is not presenting television and radio shows then she is in studio recording music. She debuted the single at Nhlanhla Nciza’s NN Vintage fashion show on Thursday evening and had the crowd excited. Check out a snippet of her shaking it on the runway.

The track is not a bad to listen to but honestly I wasn’t feeling it. Maybe I am not her target audience but the lyrics were a bit wack. I suppose if the track is meant to be a club banger then word, the lyrics don’t matter. Her voice sounds a lot better than I had expected though. There is a voice there.
The track is about the shaking one’s body. I listened to the track a couple of times and I don’t know what the song is about. It sounds like she is singing about being a blessee; “Baby don’t lie to me, you ain’t no blesser, you got no money”. She also sings about shaking her body and going down; “Shake shake your body, watch me move it like it’s a new Bugatti. Hit it right, Ima call you daddy”. All this time I thought that she is avoiding being viewed as a blessee. Well then.
The beat is nice, it’s on that Caribbean and tribal vibe which is hot right now. That’s that Rihanna’s Work and Drake One Dance type of sound. If she wants to go into making music that has this type of vibe to it, then she should work on her Patwa. Especially if she’s going to be presented as the “Queen of Patwa”. Personally, I feel like the Play Play Freestyle she released in April with the Trap sound was nice. It’s more her steeze. This, not so much.
