South African stars have been associated with beauty for as long as their images could be printed. The original influencers — actors and musicians — have lent their faces (and hair and bodies) to countless ad campaigns for beauty brands. And they still do, often as extremely well-compensated “brand ambassadors.” But it seems, nowadays, leasing out their face (or hair or body) simply isn’t enough for some of the more aesthetically eager and ambitious celebrities. Lady Du is one of the few celebrities who would rather run their own thing, than be endorsed to be the face of someone else’s dream.
We have recently learned that Lady Du is venturing into the beauty business and wants to give young unemployed people and opportunity.
She took to her Instagram timeline to say this has always been her dream and now she is ready for the venue to have staff and start functioning.
“I don’t think you guys know all the things I studied, beauty being one of them. After school I studied beauty, travelled the world working on a cruise ship [and] my biggest dream was to own a salon. Music captured me, I focused on it, but now that I can do both, I took my savings, bought a house in the hood so I don’t have to pay rent. I wanted to bring the Sandton experience back to the hood.”
