The new wave is alive and well. And while our favourite popular artists are taking their time to drop new music, we are pleased to see that the new kids are not sleeping at all. These are the three songs we reckon you should check out today.
Emerging rapper, Marv, Drops What He Calls An Ode To The New Age
Rising rapper, Marv has released his debut single what he calls an ode to the new age. Titled Dese, the song features Xhosa lyricist, Dee Koala and Supersaiyan.
Dese, which is Pitori slang for “good” is a song which is meant to show love and appreciation to the city which raised Marv. He waxes lyrical about what he loves about being from the city and also what makes it so special. He also touches on his swag and his appeal. He does this over an infectious Kwaito influenced beat with strong Kasi Rap elements.
On his collaboration with Dee, Marv says:
“Apart from the fact that I’m a big fan of her music, Dee was always top of mind when we were thinking of the perfect feature for Dese. It just felt right.”
TTGO raps his heart out in South African Gods produced by Emamkay
We have never thought we will ever hear TTGO rap his heart out but he certainly does this on his latest single, South African Gods produced by Emamkay.
Known as the undeniable Trapper, TTGO has held fast to that identity but on his new single he is both introspective and lyrical. He abandons the turn-up and party lifestyle praising in favour of a more sombre and sober look at things. The rapper breaks down the state of the game as seen from his prospective and sends out a message to those that will travel this road after him.
This is not new for him, if you look deep enough into his Soundcloud catalogue, you’ll realize that his project, Nomad Lost In Time sees TTGO touch on matters of family, the system he feels trapped in and religion for example.
He released South African Gods to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of his debut album, Lifestylion.
Multi-faceted producer, Elohim is dynamic in On God Remix ft. Indigo Stella, Lnlyboy & Elizee
Oxi Entertainment super producer, Elohim has finally unleashed the remix for his single, On God which origianlly features Flame and Elizee. On the remix he keeps Elizee but recruits dynamic lyricist Indigo Stella and Cape Town singer Lnlyboy.
On God Remix undoubtedly carries the sound of the new wave with a youth driven Hip Hop sound, making it sound fresh. The production is a combination of Trap, Soul and a healthy dose of 808 drums. The song is about being irreplaceable and each artist offers a verse to that effect. They all then go in to talk about their personal experiences, the negatives that happen and how they all choose to deal with it when such things happen.
