It is not a secret, Afro House vocalist Mpumi is in a league of her own. Since stepping into the scene, she has dominated the charts and has had quite a number of anthemic hits. This time around, she has dropped a deeply emotive single titled Izulu.
This is the first release from Mpumi this year and it follows her banging single, Uyazi, which was released in November of last year. Izulu, which is loosely translated to heaven or the heavens, is a deep and spiritual song about having experienced and touched heaven through a love she shared with someone else.
She says about the song: “The song Izulu is inspired by a failed romantic relationship I had a few years ago…. The song talks about promises of heaven and earth that were made in the name of love but were never kept.”
She continued that she also touches on feelings of betrayal after having invested and committed everything that you are into a relationship only for it to end with promises still hanging in the air.
Mpumi’s soulful and full voice compliments the message and meaning of the song to the tee. The tribal and folk elements of this song make it special as it is not just any generic house hit song; Izulu is deeply emotive and expressive. This is music with a meaning
