LISTEN: Priddy Ugly Drops Lockdown Extended EP, Music To Endure Being Indoors
Published 9 months ago by

Priddy Ugly has released a 3 track EP titled Lockdown Extended EP. The project is meant to be quarantine-themed and also be the music that we are meant to hit the streets to when the lockdown is finally lifted. Priddy Ugly drops this after the government extended the self-isolation for an additional two weeks until April 30.

He features rapper, Twnty Four and producer-turned-rapper, Wichi 1080. The album had production credits from new-age artists, Hercules as well as BonafideBille.

Priddy Ugly took to social media to announce the project’s release:

“We’re at home, social distancing & self-quarantining. When we’ve made it through this period, & we will – I made music to hit the streets to. This is also the 1st artwork I’ve designed entirely on my own for a project.”

Lockdown Extended is an experimental and ambitious sound from Priddy Ugly, something he has built his career around. The beats are new-wave with heavy basses, playful melodies and become the ideal background for Priddy Ugly’s sparse rapping. The opening song, Who U Telling sees him rap about the grime and grit of living in Jozi Maboneng. The menacing 808’s coupled with his intimidating delivery about drugs, crime and heartlessness in the city is fitting.

Durag is more light and playful. His delivery is akin to a mixture between Maglera Doe Boy and Focalistic’s easy going style. He raps about the difference between the same thing with the different names highlighting the fact that its not about what you have but what you use it for. The last joint, Quarantina is an ode to the personified identity of the quaratine. He imagines that she is a woman and raps about the effect that she has had on him since the lockdown was announced.
