While the country has been mourning the loss of Hip Hop artist and Motswako pioneer, HHP, Prince Kaybee has decided to drop a song as a tribute to him.
Prince Kaybee was planning on making a song with HHP after hearing him spit a freestyle on the Fresh Breakfast show on one of his beats. He remembers:
“My #TributeToJabba, I remember he was overseas when I sent him this, planned that when he is back he will drop a verse but all is well”.
The song features Prince Kaybee’s classic and characteristic guitar strings which take centre stage. The feel is old school but still modern as it features a soulful bass line with Kwaito style percussion. The guitar brings a sense of that Afro-jazz vibe which brings a sense of solemn but not hopelessness. More like, Prince Kaybee is encouraging us to mourn but also remember that we have to carry on.
The song is just an instrumental with no vocals. Prince Kaybee said of this:
“I don’t want any rapper on it. Just an instrumental, these superstars are hard to get into studio anyway. Let the music speak”.
The response to the track has been incredible with some thanking Prince Kaybee for making the tribute.
Hhayi uyabona wena Kaybee mfana ngeke. Uyaganga phela manje. Why uhlanganisa i-sound kanjena. This is not fair. How do you do this. Wena you just release hits like nobody’s business. This track is going to make people weep Im telling you. I can already hear Jabbaman in this beat.
