Check out the 3 songs we think you should totally peep this week. From the new-age Kwaito sounds from Mx Blouse to more subdued Kasi Rap basslines from DP Magenge, we got you and whatever type of mood you find yourself in today.
Mx Blouse- Papgeld
Mx Blouse is arguably one of the artists who is actively re-inventing Kwaito music and their version of the genre is interesting because they incorporate electronic music with it. This gives it a new feeling to it. This combined with an audacity that only they can present
Papgeld is a South African term for child support and Mx Blouse uses this track to address this particular social subject. And you would think this topic would be deep and heavy but Mx Blouse is considerably playful about it.

Robin Thirdfloor- Gibela
It’s dark and has an attitude of an idle car engine that’s about to ride off into the deep inner city- with no time to stop as soon as it goes. A little poetic but Robin Thirdfloor’s Gibela is as compelling as that. Gibela is one of those songs with a distinct South African sensibility in that the Kwaito influences are not as obvious. We have Canadian based producer Sebastxn to thank for that.
His delivery is also quite controlled and detached as he raps about his overwhelming coolness. From his threads to his relationship. There are definite bars dropped in pure vernacular but the beauty of Gibela is it’s cold appeal.
Gibela comes off his early 2019 album Zithande (A Story About Self Love). Stream and purchase it here.
Dp Magenge ft M6teen- Fokol
Dp Magenge is an artist we have never heard from before but he has made quite an impression on us. The Tembisa born Kasi rap artist assumes an “don’t care attitude” in his latest single, Fokol featuring fast rising SABC 1″One Mic” winner M6teen.
Fokol is a raw street rap song about not allowing yourself to be put down and actually standing up for what you. DP Magenge takes us back to the days of Kasi rap punchlines that are both humorous and playful.
Fokol was produced by Yendor and taken from DP Magenge’s album Ncosi released 2019.
