Siblings joining forces to create music is something we have grown accustom to over the years, with the likes of award winning groups such as ‘Jackson 5’ and ‘The Bee Gees’. Remember Mad on Dough? Well they are they are a duo who comprises of two brothers, Moxx, real name Mxolisi and Chocco, real name Sabelo from Soweto. They are young and vibrant rappers who chose the rap name ‘Mad on Dough’ as a play on their surname Madondo.
They came out with their hit song, Fill My Cup and since then they have been enjoying much success.
The duo are back with a new joint, Lahla, and this song is about a group of friends taking a trip down to an imaginary place they call Daughterville. The song describes the trip to Soweto down to Durban via Bloemfontein and documents the events that occur in the tour bus and pit stops. It basically follows their road trip. The beat is good, it goes with their kwaito-hip hop style that they have going on. The hook is also quite catchy and easy to sing along to.
The reason why their music is special and distinct is because they use a Nightcrawlers sample which they added their own style of rap they describe as ‘Dirty South’ – a distinct sound reminiscent of the hip hop movement in Soweto, but mixed with a bit of the current hip hop sound.
