Born Tswelepele Tsotetsi, he hails from Witbank and performs as Mankind. He says he is the voice representative of the entire South African youth movement. Using his music as a political platform, Mankind tackles socio-economic matters, confront corrupt government officials and the day-to-day issues of a 23 year old. “I am certain about God’s existence, and as Mankind, I preach greatness and share on what I’ve seen, heard and believe to be.”
The introductory EP (Extended Play) is titled The Mankind EP and the first single, Tony Yengeni is a story of various South African hustlers, from politics to music. Interestingly, it highlights Tony Yengeni (Member of the ANC that was found guilty of fraud in a case linked to the corruption investigation into the current South African president, Jacob Zuma) as the king-pin of the storyline.
The EP is set to drop in August of this year and consists of six tracks. It fuses both local (old skool kwaito) and international (hip hop/dubstep/trap) sounds, but still manages to deliver positive, yet honest, provocative and unpretentious messages. The follow-up single is High Position and once again in this track, Mankind reaffirms that his destiny of healing the African continent, exposing people to information and making money from his craft will see the light of day. “Thus far, I am only concerned about making real and positive changes with my music, affect people in some way and this stems from the irresponsible role that we’ve assumed as messengers.” Other tracks in the up-coming EP are Party Like A First Year, African National Congress, Bob Marley and The Take Over. “The content in my upcoming EP displays a fountain of wisdom and memories of my life experiences as well as knowledge.”
