I like how local comedians are starting to rise up by showcasing their talents every Wednesday night at the Parkers comedy club in Montecasino, Joburg. I recently attended one of their shows hosted by Tats Nkonzo accompanied by Hannes Brümmer , Eureka Nkese and Darren Maule.
This dude Darren Maule has been in the industry for quite a while now, he is also an actor best known for his role as Grant Fletcher on the SABC3 drama series Hard Copy. What I like about him most is the fact that He is actively involved in searching for new comedy venues and organising open mic evenings, to give new comics the opportunity to test their craft in front of an audience.
Rising comedy star Eureka Nkese is making waves on the Gauteng comedy circuit thanks to his entertaining cultural observations and social satire. The kind of the quirky one-liner, Nkese shares his unique world view of relationships, religion, families and everyday issues. He had me in stiches when he said “my dad has now become a racist, everytime blacks move in my neighbourhood he says yesis not these darkies again, this means we need to buy more sugar”.
This guy Hannes is also an actor, you might remember him for playing various comedic roles on the Afrikaans sketch show Kompleks which he co-wrote but you probably won’t recognise him coz for some reason he decided that he wants his hair long now.
