Durban finalists Wandi Chamane, Tamasha Gambushe and Lynton Harvey
Over a thousand young hopefuls turned out at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga for the auditions – driven by the prospect of escaping their ordinary lives and getting through to the next round in the MTV Base VJ Search contest. The Durban qualifiers were Bellair’s Tamasha Gambushe (@tamarshamusicsa) a 22 year old singer who was joined by 22 year old model and radio presenter Wandile Chamane (@wandic1) from Durban North and Lynton Harvey (@ThaReal_Flow ) 22, an electrical engineering student from The Bluff who has worked as an MC and voiceover artist. To make the cut, the three finalists completed a range of challenges in front of celebrity judges Sizwe Dhlomo (@SizweDhlomo), comedian Joey Rasdien (@joeyrasdien) and Gagasi FM DJ Zookey Zarling (@ZarlingZookey), including presenting an unscripted link live from the MAMA red carpet, and interviewing celebrities impersonated by local comedian Sifiso Nene.
All the Durban qualifiers will be flown to Johannesburg at the beginning of August to participate in further qualifying stages of the competition with judges Bonang Matheba (@Bonang_M), Sizwe Dhlomo and Joey Rasdien.
