The series is making its return in the third season and this time around the Sisters will be accompanied by the Brothers.
Soul music is an ever growing but still nostalgic genre isn’t it? I mean, with each generation, there is a distinct crop of artists who embody neo-soul music and interpret it in their own unique ways and it is refreshing to behold. However, up until now, this genre has been mainly dominated by women.
SABC 1’s Brothers and Sisters With Soul is a continuation of its sister program, Sisters With Soul, and opts to highlight and celebrate the brothers who continue to contribute to the growth of Soul music in SA.
This is the third season of the show and will do the most and profile both brothers and sisters who have “managed to independently their spot in the various genres”. The music documentary, directed by the brilliant Diliza Moabi, will take the audience through the sound that is uniquely South African and cultivated with an urban edge.
The brothers who will be featured on this season are seasoned and will show how they have contributed to the genre. Some of the artists are familiar to us such as songstress Elo Zar and Thembisile and brothers such as the guys from Johnny Cradle and Samthing Soweto. The dopest thing about this show is that it will introduce us to fresh and untainted artists in an inspirational way.
According to sabc1.co.za, “the show also offers a totally fresh new perspective on how mainstream indie music is composed and produced and how different artists play around with different genres, such as Hip-Hop, House and Electro.” Now this is exciting!
The show made its debut on Tuesday, the 29th of August to rave reviews and we look forward to more episodes.
Catch it on SABC 1, every Tuesday at 22:00.
